Independent Technical Assessor - Ultrasound (UKAS Accreditation)

Location: Remote with UK travel

About the Role

UKAS is looking for experienced Radiographers, Radiologists, and Sonographers to work as Independent Technical Assessors. In this role, you will assess ultrasound services as part of UKAS accreditation schemes, ensuring they meet national quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of ultrasound services, reviewing clinical practice, imaging quality, and reporting standards.
  • Evaluate compliance with professional standards, regulations, and national guidance.
  • Assess information systems, quality assurance measures, and audit processes.
  • Review service delivery across various ultrasound specialities, including general imaging, paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology, cardiac, MSK, and interventional procedures.
  • Carry out on-site and remote assessments, providing expert insights and recommendations.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

Radiographers:

  • Pre-1990: Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR(R))
  • Post-1990: BSc (Hons) Radiography
  • Advanced Practice Radiographers: Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma, or MSc in a relevant area

Radiologists:

  • Medical degree (e.g. MBBS or MBChB)
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR)

Sonographers:

  • BSc in Medical Ultrasound Imaging (CASE accredited)
  • OR Healthcare/science degree plus CASE-accredited PGCert/PGDip/MSc in Medical Ultrasound Imaging

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of ultrasound imaging techniques and reporting.
  • Knowledge of non-ionising radiation guidance for diagnostic imaging.
  • Familiarity with professional standards and regulations.
  • Experience with clinical governance, audit, and quality assurance in ultrasound services.
  • Understanding of diagnostic imaging IT systems.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of quality management systems and service improvement in imaging.
  • Experience in diagnostic imaging waiting list management.
  • Understanding of radiation protection regulations in diagnostic imaging.

Professional Registration

  • Desirable: Registered with a relevant professional body (e.g. HCPC, GMC).
  • Desirable: Membership of Society of Radiographers, Royal College of Radiologists, or Unison.
