Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Team Leader to join our residential childcare team. In this key leadership role, you'll support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home, provide direct care to young people, and guide and supervise a team of support staff. You'll lead with confidence, particularly in the manager's absence, helping ensure a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support the Registered Manager in ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  2. Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  3. Assist with the admissions process, creating a welcoming and supportive environment.
  4. Support transition planning when young people leave the home.
  5. Monitor and maintain care plans and documentation through robust auditing.
  6. Conduct staff supervisions and appraisals, supporting professional development.
  7. Participate in the management on-call rota as required.
  8. Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Day-to-Day Duties
  1. Lead shifts and ensure children are engaged, supported, and safe.
  2. Collaborate with social workers, parents, schools, and other professionals.
  3. Assist in rota planning to ensure appropriate skill mix and coverage.
  4. Guide staff in accurate and timely reporting of incidents and safeguarding concerns.
  5. Promote compliance with training and induction requirements.
  6. Contribute to the development of the annual training plan.
  7. Support health and safety standards in the home and grounds.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications:
  1. HNC and SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children & Young People) - essential
  2. SVQ Level 4 - desirable or willingness to work towards it
Experience:
  1. Minimum 2 years in residential childcare or a similar setting
  2. Knowledge of children's residential care legislation and safeguarding procedures
Skills & Attributes:
  1. Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
  2. In-depth understanding of Care Inspectorate quality standards
  3. Organised, empathetic, and confident in a team leadership role
  4. Committed to upholding the rights of children and young people (UNCRC)
