BAND 7 TEAM LEADER/CLINICAL SPECIALIST PHYSIOTHERAPIST - PELVIC HEALTH Up to 33.5 hours per week
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Pelvic Health Physiotherapist to join our Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Service to help support the existing team as a Clinical Specialist and Team Leader. The team works closely with our maternity, urogynaecology, urology, colorectal and general consultant teams, and local specialist physiotherapists. The team is currently expanding into the management of complex pelvic pain patients and working closely with the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) to develop exciting new changes to physiotherapy care for the postnatal population.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for your own outpatient caseload which includes patients with urinary, bowel and pelvic floor dysfunction and, on occasion, referrals from our local community musculoskeletal services for specialist antenatal musculoskeletal reviews. Your caseload will include patients presenting with complex pelvic pain. You will already have prior postgraduate training in vaginal and anorectal examinations and will have experience of managing highly complex patients autonomously.

As Team Leader you will have responsibilities to support the team with training and development of existing staff, and students on clinical placement, day-to-day management of the team, as well as take an active role in service development. You will also be expected to provide clinical support to staff members involved in inpatient working on the maternity and gynaecology wards.

As part of the role, you will be key in supporting the team to provide education not only within the Integrated Therapies Department but to our wider workforce, from healthcare assistants to qualified/overseas nursing staff and our medical colleagues.

Job responsibilities

• Provide clinical management and leadership of a therapy team to achieve high quality, responsive and efficient care alongside a supportive role for the whole of therapy services to include operational and service development support under the direction of the Clinical Services Therapy Leads for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
• To take a lead role in advanced assessment and treatment of female, male and paediatric pelvic health patients, who will often have highly complex and/or chronic presentation and for whom embarrassment and/or anxiety will often provide a barrier to communication. Use of advanced clinical reasoning skills to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
• To keep abreast of new research and development within the speciality, identifying any learning needs within the team and arrange training as necessary.
• To provide leadership and line management to integrated therapy staff in the pelvic health speciality and wider department including recruitment, appraisals, performance and sickness absence management. To be responsible for service development within the speciality and wider service development workstreams.
• To implement policy and policy changes in own clinical area, which affect the whole service and the Trust. To support implementation to the therapy-wide service.
• To plan, co-ordinate, deliver and evaluate the therapy service (occupational therapy and physiotherapy) provided to the speciality on a day-to-day basis. This includes ensuring the teams workload is appropriately prioritised and work is effectively distributed and co-ordinated across the team on a day-to-day basis. To support therapy-wide staff co-ordination as required.
• To represent the therapy team at relevant team meetings including the Business and Governance meetings, and at Trust meetings as requested by Clinical Lead.
• To provide clinical excellence, advice and support for all health care professionals within the speciality.
• To provide specialist advice and guidance in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the pelvic health speciality who may have complex and/or chronic presentation and to support clinical staff to determine clinical diagnosis and therapy treatment indicated.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

• Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc/MSc).
• Current HCPC registration.
• Postgraduate experience in Pelvic Health.
• Evidence of relevant postgraduate courses (POGP or equivalent workshops such as female urinary dysfunction course)/CPD activities in Pelvic Health areas.
• Evidence of coaching/training/supervision of others.
• Leadership training, e.g. 16 Steps.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Demonstrates specialist clinical skills within area including complex case management in Pelvic Health.
• Recognises own limitations and knows when to ask for help.
• Self-directional learning evidenced.
• Evidence of involvement in service development, e.g. working on projects.
• Training and clinical supervision of clinical staff and students and other disciplines including the teaching of specialist skills.
• Working knowledge of clinical governance/current topics in the NHS.
