Job summary

Are you a motivated Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist passionate about supporting elderly patients? We have an exciting leadership opportunity for a full-time, permanent Band 7 Team Lead in our Care of the Elderly ward within the Medicine team.

This role involves clinical leadership alongside another Band 7, supporting patients in Care of the Elderly, Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Respiratory Medicine. We seek someone with a strong interest in frailty care, significant experience managing acute medical conditions, and expertise at Band 6 level in an NHS acute setting.

You will assess and treat patients on the Older People's Frailty ward, manage a complex caseload, and lead the therapy team. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to adapt under pressure.

You will also have opportunities for leadership development, attend conferences, collaborate with community partners, and receive ongoing training and mentorship. We welcome applications from those requiring visa sponsorship.

Provide clinical expertise in Frailty on the Care of Elderly Ward.

Main duties of the job:

1. Lead both clinical and operational aspects of the Medicine teams.
2. Deliver specialised assessments and treatments within medical specialties.
3. Oversee daily operations and contribute to the planning, evaluation, and development of the Medicine and Care of the Elderly teams.
4. Offer guidance and advice to healthcare professionals, social care staff, carers, and families.
5. Collaborate with Clinical Leads and the Head of Therapies to implement department and trust objectives.
6. Promote the roles of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Support Staff, and develop protocols and standards for patient care.
7. Manage the induction, training, supervision, and appraisal of junior staff, students, and support staff.
8. Build strong relationships with the multidisciplinary team (MDT), including Ward Managers, Matrons, General Managers, and Medical Teams, representing therapies in specialty meetings and projects.
9. Participate in 7-day working to ensure continuous patient care.
10. Lead the assessment and treatment of patients with complex needs in Care of the Elderly and medical specialties.
11. Support and develop therapy professionals, fostering professional growth and high standards of practice.
12. Collaborate with the MDT to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.
13. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the team.
14. Manage a diverse caseload, focusing on holistic, patient-centred care.
