Job description

Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Special Needs School

Location: Oldham, Lancashire

Salary: £90 per day

Hours: Full-time, 8:30 AM to 3:40 PM

About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a Special Needs School in Oldham, Lancashire. The successful candidate will work closely with students with a range of learning disabilities, providing support that caters to their individual needs and helps them to achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.
  2. Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning objectives.
  3. Offer personalized attention to students with special needs, adapting to their emotional, social, and educational requirements.
  4. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavioural plans.
  5. Provide support in personal care needs, as required, maintaining student dignity and independence.
  6. Attend to students' medical needs as necessary, following appropriate training.
  7. Monitor and record student progress in various educational settings.
  8. Implement strategies to promote a safe and positive learning environment.
  9. Act as a proactive team member within the school, participating in appropriate staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  10. Ensure excellent spoken and written English communication is maintained with both students and staff.
  11. Assist with the preparation of materials and equipment for classes and activities.
  12. Facilitate the inclusion of students in all aspects of school life.
Qualifications and Experience:
  1. Proven experience working with young people or adults with learning disabilities is essential.
  2. NVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent) for Teaching Assistants or a relevant child care qualification is preferred.
  3. Excellent spoken and written English skills.
  4. A current Enhanced DBS registered with the update service.
