Job description

Teacher/Tutor for Health and Social Care | Gillingham

Full time – 37 hours per week | FTE - £24,000 - £30,000 dependent on experience and qualifications

Our client is a non-profit making organisation which focuses on offering quality Accountancy Training and other specialist training courses.

They are now looking to add a bright and ambitious Health and Social Care Tutor to their team. This position would best suit someone who is committed to passing on their Health and Social Care knowledge and is committed to the health, safety and safeguarding of students.

In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for the teaching/coordination of their health and social care training, and for delivering Functional Skills in Maths or English at both levels to the Apprentices and adult learners in small classes (of 18 learners max).

Please note- The candidate MUST have an Assessor A1 Award, a Health and Social Care qualification and relevant experience.

Are you the right person for the job?
  1. Five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent), including English and Mathematics
  2. Degree, or Professional Qualification, which is appropriate to the work. (Health & Social Care)
  3. Working knowledge of the Health and Social Care industry, specifically within the Health sector
  4. Relevant Health and/or Social Care occupational experience
  5. Relevant successful teaching experience with 16-18 learners, including the ability to teach Health and Social Care BTEC RQF at Level 3
  6. Teaching Qualification. PGCE, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PTLLS, QTLS
  7. Vocational Assessors Award
  8. Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies
  9. Computer literacy
  10. Excellent organisational skills
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills
  12. Ability to work as part of a team
  13. Excellent communication and negotiation skills

What will your role look like?
  1. Providing high-quality teaching, learning, assessment, and internal moderation across a range of Health and Social Care courses and partnership delivery
  2. Course leading a programme and/or programmes of study in Health and Social Care, ensuring high levels of achievement and success
  3. Contributing to the delivery, tracking, and monitoring of Maths and English performance amongst cohorts of students undertaking Health and Social Care courses
  4. Contributing to the development and continual improvement of courses, co-ordinating effectively with both staff and students
  5. Establish a safe and stimulating environment for students, rooted in mutual respect
  6. To set goals and learning objectives both for individual lessons and for progress over time that stretch and challenge students of all backgrounds, abilities.
  7. To be accountable for students' attainment, progress and outcomes and to set realistic targets for your performance based on these outcomes
  8. Plan, prepare, develop, and evaluate courses and course materials, and supervise course provisions, where appropriate. Participate in programme/college activities
  9. Participate and undertake Staff Appraisal and in-service training, based upon an assessment of individual service needs
  10. Meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the College's Health and Safety Policies
  11. To have a full understanding of how to assess a student's needs and develop appropriate support strategies; devise tasks and activities which encourage students to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and studies
  12. Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required
