Position: Teacher of Science

At: Academy based in Croydon

Salary: Outer London MPS 1-6 (U1-3 as appropriate)

Role: Full-time

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: September 2025

About the school and role on offer:

Tradewind are very excited to be collaborating with a successful and thriving Academy in Croydon, South London, with a proven track record of fantastic results at all key stages in their recruitment of a talented Science Teacher.

This is a mixed Academy for 1,300 students aged 11-18, with a large sixth form of over 300 students. The school has a vision that all members of the Academy community are supported and encouraged to achieve their absolute potential. The school is part of a larger Federation that enables them to offer a comprehensive induction programme and training and development opportunities to support your career development including master's and other qualifications.

You will be joining a dedicated Science department where teachers and staff collaborate with schemes of work and sharing of best practice to support their talented students.

The purpose of your role will be:

  1. To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated Science teaching curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
  2. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a Science teacher/form tutor.
  3. To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential through the subject of Science.
  4. To contribute to raising standards of student attainment within the Science curriculum.
  5. To share and support the academy's responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth.

The successful candidate will:

  1. Hold QTS (or equivalent) and an undergraduate degree in Science.
  2. Have successful teaching experience at secondary level (can be teaching practice), ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and of working in an 11-18 school.
  3. Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
  4. Understand the importance of high expectations and equality of access for all students, and of being a tutor.
  5. Have knowledge of National Curriculum requirements at Science KS3 and KS4, and of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students' work.
  6. Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
  7. Have a good level of ICT skills, ideally including innovative use of interactive white boards.
  8. Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
  9. Be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary.
  10. Have good written and spoken communication skills.
  11. Be able to lead and manage their own work effectively.
  12. Have excellent time management skills.
  13. Be able to motivate students and raise their aspirations through a range of strategies.
