Teacher of Maths and Head of Year

Responsibilities:
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate teacher to join our dynamic school community. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting students in their academic and personal growth. The teacher will design and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with the curriculum, assess student progress, and contribute to the overall development of the school community. A Head of Year has a key role in ensuring the wellbeing, progress and achievement of all students in their care.

Main teaching responsibilities:
Teaching and Pastoral Responsibilities. You will have a teaching commitment throughout the school. This will involve, amongst other responsibilities:

  1. Planning and delivering lessons
  2. Assessment, monitoring and evaluation in line with school systems
  3. Attendance and participation at departmental meetings
  4. Contribution to the provision of teaching materials within the department
  5. Setting and marking of regular homework
  6. Running extra-curricular programmes of learning and other enrichment activities
  7. The maintenance and care of all stock and resources

In addition to a teaching commitment, all teachers are expected to undertake pastoral responsibilities. In this capacity you will be either a Form Tutor or an attached member of staff.
Curriculum: To assist with curriculum planning, incorporating the whole-school policies; contributing relevant units or components to other Department schemes of work as may be required; implementing the homework policy and ensuring that work is effectively monitored.

  1. Assisting in the development of departmental initiatives and attending departmental / faculty meeting.
  2. Assisting in the preparation of support materials and schemes of work, including monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness
  3. Keeping up to date with recent curriculum developments
  4. Participating in the provision of in-service training
  5. Developing her/his own skills through in-service training for colleagues when appropriate and participating in the teacher appraisal programme
  6. Liaising with specific departments and teams, as can reasonably be directed
  7. Contributing to meetings and working parties, as necessary.

Head of Year Responsibilities:

  1. To lead and manage a team of tutors and (in some cases) Pastoral Support Leads, ensuring the daily management tasks as defined by agreed school systems are carried out and that a varied programme of extra-curricular activities is run throughout the year
  2. To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning the Year group using the school’s management information systems
  3. Monitor and improve attendance and punctuality within the cohort, and to contribute to whole school targets
  4. Lead and manage interventions to improve attendance and punctuality
  5. To attend regular pastoral meetings with the wider pastoral team
  6. To meet with parents as needed to support the progress of students within the year group
  7. To help organise parents' consultations
  8. To recruit, manage and liaise with student leadership team/ambassadors from the cohort and support them with delivering whole school initiatives

Additional Head of Year Responsibilities:

  1. To create, lead and monitor the implementation of an effective tutorial programme
  2. To hold assemblies in line with school policy
  3. To assist with the co-ordination of specific activities, as required
  4. To undertake whole school duties on a rota basis, such as break time supervision as directed
  5. To participate in performance management
  6. To contribute to policy formation and implement school policies, including safeguarding
  7. To lead and develop initiatives to support the school ethos
  8. To be prepared to undertake continuing professional development
  9. To lead and work with others to provide quality CPD to enhance and develop an effective tutor team
  10. To liaise with appropriate members of the Senior Leadership Team
  11. To act as a positive role model
  12. To keep up to date with national developments in the pastoral area
