Job description

Our Charity Tax team is a small but growing team within the firm. The Charity Tax Team work closely with a range of organisations, mainly Not-For-Profits but also some corporates - helping to ensure that clients are compliant with current tax legislation. The nature of your work will flex in line with our clients’ situations, but that’s what makes it interesting as no day is ever the same.

Role Overview

To provide daily, flexible, proactive support to the Charity Tax Team, primarily the Tax Consultants and Tax PA/Administrator.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare online charity tax registration forms for new charity clients and those claiming tax relief/Gift Aid for the first time (ChA1 forms).
  • Prepare new charity and subsidiary enquiry forms for HMRC when a new company is incorporated.
  • Prepare Gift Aid online reclaims involving online registration, data gathering and formatting.
  • Once trained, use our tax software to initiate set up of corporation tax computations and returns.
  • Support the charity tax marketing including mailings, presentations and attendance at courses.
  • Monitor charity compliance deadlines and update checklist. Chasing emails for outstanding information, sending out Gift Aid and filing reminders, ensuring and chasing iXBRL tagging.
  • Producing draft bills for the Charity Tax managers.
  • Routine correspondence, including the drafting of letters to HMRC e.g. tax returns, 64-8 tax agent set-up for client, dealing with tax payments, and checking government gateway for when charity tax returns are required.
  • Assist the team in the management of tenders for new work and ensure progress is updated regularly, including setting up new client codes and AML checks.
  • Assist the team in the creation of presentations and tender documents.
  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the processed material and ensure that any regulations concerning security or confidentiality (such as safeguarding passwords) are complied with.
  • Assist the Tax Team to ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • The role will include opportunities for development and progression whether in tax or other opportunities within the firm with transferable skills gained.
  • Carry out such other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.
  • Work as part of a team, assisting Partners, Directors and Managers and other members of the team.
Skills and Experience
  • A minimum of 120 UCAS Tariff points from your top 3 A-levels, or equivalent (300 using the old tariff)
  • A minimum of Level 6 (B grade using the old system) in GCSE Maths and English Language, or equivalent
  • Good use of English grammar with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills to communicate with people at all levels and ability to organise your workload
  • Advanced Word, Intermediate Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other MS Office applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to prioritise workload, as well as multi-task
