Tax Accountant - Property Investments - Sydney

  • Full-Time - Office Based

About the Role

We seek an experienced and proactive Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in individual, trust, and company taxation, with specialised expertise in property investment tax. In this role, you will play a critical part in ensuring tax compliance, optimising tax strategies, and delivering exceptional advice to clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Individual, Trust, and Company Taxation:
    • Prepare and lodge individual, trust, and company tax returns, ensuring compliance with Australian tax laws.
    • Advise on trust distributions, company tax planning strategies, and tax-effective business structures.
    • Identify tax minimisation opportunities and provide tailored advice to clients.
  2. Investment Property Taxation:
    • Manage property tax obligations, including rental income tax, property-related expenses, and capital gains tax (CGT).
    • Guide investment property deductions, depreciation schedules, and negative gearing strategies.
    • Prepare detailed reports to ensure accurate treatment of property-related income and expenses.
  3. Tax Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure timely and accurate lodgement of federal, state, and local tax returns.
    • Analyse complex tax regulations and provide solutions to maintain full compliance.
    • Conduct tax audits and liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on behalf of clients.
    • Maintain well-organised tax records for audit readiness and efficient retrieval.
  4. Tax Planning and Advisory:
    • Develop and implement proactive tax-saving strategies to optimise client and company outcomes.
    • Monitor changes in tax legislation and provide advice on their implications.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to navigate complex tax scenarios.
  5. Communication and Client Collaboration:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders, including property managers, accountants, and finance teams.
    • Communicate complex tax information to non-tax professionals.
    • Respond promptly to inquiries, ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  6. Systems and Technology:
    • Utilise tax preparation software (e.g., Xero Tax) and accounting systems to track and manage tax data.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements and system automation to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
    • Ensure meticulous record-keeping and data integrity across all systems.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • CPA or CA certification is highly regarded.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of Australian tax laws and regulations.
    • Proficiency in tax software and accounting systems (e.g., Xero Tax, or similar).
    • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex tax matters.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams and clients.
    • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
    • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
