Job description

We are looking for a dynamic, friendly and intelligent individual for a newly created role, taking responsibility for all things tax and treasury at SportPursuit. This is an expanding area at SportPursuit which we are placing more attention on as the business grows – finding the right person who is keen to take ownership and develop is key!

You may be (not an exhaustive list):

  • A part-qualified tax professional with lots of VAT experience in practice
  • A fully qualified tax professional with VAT and Corporation tax experience in industry
  • A part-qualified accountant working in industry with tax responsibilities
  • A fully-qualified accountant with a desire to learn about tax

Your responsibilities will include:

Tax

  • VAT
    • International VAT - run the international VAT return process (seven registrations), preparing the returns for review by the FC and working closely with our external advisors to ensure submissions are accurate and on time
    • UK VAT - manage the VAT return process, ensuring returns are submitted accurately and on time, liaising with the wider finance team
    • Manage any VAT audits that arise
    • Provide support across the group to build a group-wide international VAT architecture
    • Other international compliance - including intrastat / EC sales lists, and duty, working with the management accounts team and FC to identify opportunities to optimise costs
  • Corporation tax
    • Run the annual corporation tax compliance process (five UK entities), liaising with the others in the management accounts team to feed into the statutory accounts, and building strong relationships with our external corporation tax advisors
    • Identify and follow up on other corporation tax matters as they arise, e.g. QIPs calculations, thin cap / CIR, using advisors as required
  • Transfer pricing - design, implement, and maintain processes with help from external advisors to ensure compliance with relevant transfer pricing regulations
  • Other taxes - ad hoc work to support the wider business on other tax affairs, e.g. payroll taxes (both UK and international).

Treasury (you can learn this on the job)

  • Build and maintain medium to long term cash flow forecasts
  • Use those forecasts to:
    • Plan cash deposits to maximise interest earned (whilst ensuring the business has enough cash available to perform its day to day functions)
    • Manage currency to ensure we have enough of the right currencies at the right time
    • Execute FX hedging strategy to manage risk on USD stock purchases

The areas listed above are those which you will have responsibility for. Prior experience in all areas is not a requirement, but you must have a willingness to learn, develop and take ownership in these areas.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you must be:

  • An experienced accountant (2+ years) within practice or industry, ideally part-qualified or fully qualified (ACA, CTA, CIMA, etc.)
  • Keen to learn about SQL/data
  • Comfortable with obtaining and analysing data
  • Disciplined and methodical in your approach to tasks
  • Comfortable with challenging existing processes
  • Well organised and able to prioritise your workload
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel (using sumifs, index match)
  • An effective communicator in both written and verbal English
  • Mathematically minded
  • A logical thinker who is great at solving problems independently
  • Eager to develop your skills and learn new things

Nice to have but not essential:

  • Experience within an e-commerce business
