Job Description

Systems Engineering and Verification Opportunities - Submarines
Full Time / Part Time
5 Days On-Site - Hybrid working may be agreed.

Location: Derby

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Systems & Verifications Engineers to join Rolls-Royce Submarines.

Our Systems Engineering and Verification Engineers are responsible for ensuring oversight of our products to meet business, customer, and regulatory requirements. This is an integration role where you will work to enable all engineering teams through coaching and support to successfully develop robust, verified engineering solutions against validated customer requirements.

Why Rolls-Royce?

At Rolls-Royce Submarines, we support the Royal Navy as the technical authority to the UK Ministry of Defence for naval reactor plants. We are also growing our submarine and nuclear sector capabilities.

Join us, and we’ll provide an environment where you can be yourself. An inclusive, digital-first culture that invests in you, gives you a platform for continuous learning, and access to an incredible breadth and depth of opportunities to grow your career.

What we offer:

We offer excellent development, a competitive salary, and exceptional benefits. These include bonuses, employee support assistance, and employee discounts.

Your needs are as unique as you are. Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home, or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum, we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you’ll be doing:

You will interface between external and internal customers to elicit and validate all stakeholder requirements, including business, technical customers, and partners.

  • Set the Systems Engineering and Verification approach for an Engineering Programme through the relevant management plans.
  • Ensure sufficient rigor is put into requirements validation and verification to remove technical risk.
  • Develop product verification strategy, structured verification plan, and Product Development Plan.
  • Manage the creation of substantiation evidence and clearance/acceptance documentation that meets the demand for the project.
  • Be the point of contact within the project to support and coach the team regarding Systems Engineering, Validation, and Verification activities, driving the right V&V behaviours within the project.

Who we are looking for:

At Rolls-Royce, we embrace agility, are bold, pursue collaboration, and seek simplicity in everything we do. These principles form our values and behaviours and are essential components of our assessment process and are fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.

  • Degree level in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering.
  • Experience in the Nuclear industry is preferred but not essential.
  • Experience working with relevant SE software applications, e.g., DOORS / CAMEO.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, with an ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong delivery record with an understanding of programme management.

We’re an equal opportunities employer. We’re committed to developing a diverse workforce and an inclusive working environment. We believe that people from different backgrounds and cultures give us different perspectives. By building a culture of respect and appreciation, we give everyone who works here the opportunity to realise their full potential.

You can learn more about our global Inclusion strategy at Our people | Rolls-Royce.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines, you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently have this in place.

Due to the nature of the work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets, you must hold a UK nationality. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
