Job description

My client provides engineering design, delivery and support solutions to clients across various sectors, such as deployable containerised systems to clients' performance and capability requirements. They are seeking a Systems Engineering Lead to take responsibility for project engineering deliverables, including design compliance, management of design sub-contractors, project design approval, test & verification and ensuring that safety and structural standards are met throughout the delivery of the project.


Systems Engineering Lead


The Systems Engineering Lead will support the recruitment and mobilisation of the Project Engineering team, deliver the Design and Engineering Management Plan and develop and implement design and engineering project processes and procedures. You will oversee the design team to develop engineering solutions to budget and regulatory standards, setting and managing the system of systems approach and ensuring the safety and efficiency of all project engineering operations. You will ensure that Design and Engineering tasks are completed to time, budget and standards, ensuring project design solutions comply with the customers system requirements documents, compliancy documents and contractual requirements. You will also manage sub-contractor designs and engineering outputs and will be responsible for the development, management and execution of the Trials, Verification and Validation Plan.


The role will require significant UK and overseas travel (predominantly Europe) for supplier inspections and audits and equipment acceptance inspections.


To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be qualified to degree level in mechanical or electrical engineering, holding certification with an engineering professional organisation and with advanced understanding of engineering principles and procedures.


You will have significant experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment at Senior Engineer or Design Management level with knowledge and experience of System Engineering principles and practices, specifically integration on the mechanical side, able to collaborate and communicate across the engineering team, service technicians, business managers and clients. You will also need experience leading teams of individuals from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines.


You will need a number of the following experience and knowledge:

  1. ISO 9001:2015 Management Systems and ISO 45001:2018.
  2. Use of design software packages.
  3. Working with Military Organisations and associated procurement establishments.
  4. Working knowledge and use of AQAP, Mil Stan, Def Stan, European, British and ISO standards.
  5. Working knowledge of human factors engineering.
  6. Exceptional organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  7. Previous understanding of process for CE marking of equipment systems.
