Job description

Job ID: 2876577 | AWS EMEA SARL (UK Branch)

Amazon Web Services (AWS) builds and operates some of the largest internet infrastructure on the planet; providing companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. With AWS, you can provision compute power, storage, database, and other cloud resources as your business demands them.

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations such as Bedrock that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organisation, you’ll support the development and management of services such as Compute, Storage, Database and Analytics, AI/ML, Platform and builder tooling in AWS, including support for customers who require specialised security solutions for their cloud services.

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineering and Operations Leader to contribute to the growth of our organisation within Amazon Web Services.

Key job responsibilities

You love to work with internal and external customers to execute projects and resolve issues. You will set the standard for automation and working at scale, dive deep into technical issues, and work diligently to improve the customer experience. You are a believer in the DevOps model of service engineering and you are excited to run operations in an environment where developers don’t toss problems over the wall. You are happiest when you are working with empowered, world-class engineers to meet world-class challenges. Finally, with your strong ownership bias, you have an infectious desire to continually improve how things are done.

A day in the life

In a typical day you will:

  1. Lead the deployment and operation of services in regions with specialised security needs.
  2. Report on the health of these services.
  3. Drive root cause analysis and coach others on performing them.
  4. Lead local development efforts to improve operational performance.
  5. Drive continual improvement in systems operations through the development of new tooling and automation.
  6. Define and drive projects and report on their progress.
  7. Meet with customers to develop relationships and clarify requirements.
  8. Create and refine the staffing and support plan for the services that you support.
  9. Work in an environment where operational excellence is truly the first priority.
