Job description

Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world.

Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd is seeking an experienced Sustainability Lead to guide T&D operations in the UK on sustainable development, collaborating with stakeholders to create a unified sustainability program. This role is remote/home-based but requires travel across the UK as needed.

The Role

Reporting directly to the HSSE Manager, as Sustainability Lead, you will coordinate with operational stakeholders to develop and maintain a sustainability strategy that meets Wood T&D's objectives. This includes facilitating forums for collaboration, setting targets, managing data reporting, and promoting best practices while representing T&D in external committees and supporting project ESG initiatives. This comprehensive approach ensures that sustainability is integrated into every aspect of the business, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

The candidate should possess a relevant degree or equivalent, IEMA charter membership or pursuit thereof, proven experience in a similar role, familiarity with sustainability and ESG standards, knowledge of Science Based Targets and carbon compliance, report writing skills, experience in developing sustainability programs and managing systems, proficiency in benchmarking surveys, Microsoft Office, excellent communication and planning abilities, and a self-starting work ethic, alongside awareness of audit practices.

We encourage applicants at Lead level seeking a lateral move, as well as experienced senior sustainability advisors aspiring for their first lead role, while prioritizing those with proven backgrounds in construction or electricity supply among candidates from diverse industries.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with functional and operational stakeholders to build and maintain a sustainability strategy that aligns with the needs of Wood's key stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain sustainability-related forums, such as the Charities Committee and Sustainability Committee, to ensure connectivity across the business for key decision-making.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify sustainability targets and objectives aligned with the strategy, and develop company sustainability processes and procedures to meet them.
  • Set the framework for recording sustainability data at the project site level.
  • Produce the company carbon footprint and associated performance reporting for inclusion in the T&D annual report and accounts, in line with legal requirements.
  • Present, produce, and maintain sustainability performance reporting for T&D's senior management.
  • Represent T&D on external sustainability committees, forums, and conferences.
  • Ensure T&D stays current with key client and peer approaches to sustainability, and work with Business Development to fully utilize this knowledge.
  • Manage the identification, implementation, and performance of any contracts supporting the sustainability program.
  • Support the education, upskilling, coaching, and sustainability leadership within T&D.
  • Promote sustainability best practices in the office and on projects.
  • Support projects in crafting their responses to the ESG and sustainability agenda.
