Job description

Are you a strategic engineering manager who thrives on shaping global sustainability systems through innovation and digital transformation? In this role, you’ll act as a key partner in delivering enterprise-wide engineering solutions and data automation platforms to support GSK’s Net Zero and Nature Positive goals. Your blend of systems thinking, technical expertise, and innovation leadership will shape the sustainability landscape across our global supply chain.

As the Sustainability Engineering Solutions Manager, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating the integration of engineering solutions to enhance sustainability across our manufacturing sites in the global supply chain. This position is crucial for achieving the company's ambitious sustainability goals, including Carbon Net Zero and Net Nature Positive targets by 2030. As the successful role holder, you will have a deep understanding of both engineering principles and sustainability practices, combined with the ability to leverage cutting-edge technologies and data analytics to create innovative solutions.

In this role you will be responsible for…

Accelerating Engineering Technologies:

  • Technology Scouting and Evaluation: Identify and evaluate emerging engineering technologies that can enhance sustainability. Focus on technologies such as advanced waste heat recovery systems, hydrogen fuel cells for power generation, etc.
  • Lead global pilot initiatives and scale-up efforts for selected engineering innovations, ensuring alignment with enterprise infrastructure and strategic priorities.
  • Manage vendor relationships and guide technical assessments, validations, and integration planning for selected innovations.

Global Metering / Sustainability Data Automation:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the global metering project, ensuring seamless integration of site-level metering and energy management systems with enterprise-level data management and reporting platforms.
  • Develop a fully automated environmental data ecosystem that ensures real-time accuracy and reliability by eliminating manual data entry and reducing data lag.
  • Identify and deploy advanced data automation tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of sustainability data collection.
  • Collaborate with technology vendors and internal IT teams to ensure successful integration of metering systems with existing data infrastructure.
  • Oversee the implementation of automated data gathering solutions, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Engage with site-level experts, engineering teams, and sustainability leads to coordinate the implementation of metering solutions and provide necessary training and support.
  • Analyse metering data to generate insights, identify opportunities for operational efficiencies, and drive continuous improvement in sustainability practices.
  • Own the architecture and strategy for sustainability digital systems across the global manufacturing network, ensuring seamless integration across OT (Operational Technology) and IT systems.
  • Provide leadership on aligning metering projects with GSK’s broader data ecosystem (e.g., SAP, Databricks Data Lake, Power BI).

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Data Analytics: Utilize advanced data analytics to gather, analyse, and interpret sustainability data. This involves creating automated data processes to ensure accurate and timely data collection, which will be used to generate insights and identify areas for improvement.

Regulatory Compliance and Standards:

  • Compliance: Ensure that all engineering projects and sustainability initiatives comply with relevant environmental regulations and standards. This includes staying up to date with the latest regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

  • A systems mindset and a track record of implementing enterprise-wide solutions that bridge digital, engineering, and sustainability domains.
  • Exceptional accuracy when working with data, strong written communication to document validation results and provide clear reasons for rejections.
  • Good knowledge of energy, water, wastewater, MDI, and refrigerant loss reporting, as well as sustainability compliance in areas such as Carbon Compliance.
  • Ability to apply calculation methods (e.g., consumption-to-emission conversions using emission factors) and follow structured workflows and standard operating procedures.
  • Proactive in managing workload, escalating only key issues, and taking ownership of tasks, with significant experience in data analysis and presentation of data-led business insights.
  • Experience in an engineering role with skills in digital & data, and prior experience in manufacturing site operations, ideally with a multi-functional perspective, with prior sustainability experience being essential.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Qualified to Masters’ degree level in an engineering discipline.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with EHS reporting, environmental compliance, sustainability, or regulatory documentation.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-wide sustainability data collection platforms, energy management systems, or similar compliance frameworks.
  • Experience managing data for multiple stakeholders across different geographies.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage workload fluctuations.
  • Experience working with enterprise-level data architecture and reporting platforms (e.g., ERP systems, data lakes, IoT platforms).
  • Familiarity with global manufacturing operations and site-to-enterprise technology scaling.
