Overview

Survey Technician / Utility Locator

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to join our team. This position will assist Project Leads with creation/verification of project files, utility research, and survey-related duties and responsibilities in support of project deliverables. This position is a hybrid position that will require 50% office work and 50% in the field with travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assists Project Leads with CAD production, deliverables review, computations, and other survey-related responsibilities.
2. Periodic travel to perform private utility locating.
3. Performs self and peer-review QA/QC checks.
4. Coordinates with field crews and office staff.
5. Ensures division, regional, and company values, policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service.
6. Leads by example – displays solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.
7. Drives innovation and efficiency in CAD production processes.
8. Handles multiple priorities and projects well.
9. Consistently demonstrates critical thinking skills.

Required Experience

1. Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills.
2. Knowledge of utility networks and geophysical locating equipment (pipe & line locator).
3. Ability to operate AutoCAD Civil 3D for production activities and familiarity with GIS concepts.
4. Ability to manage multiple tasks, support project coordination, and interact with other services.
5. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Experience

1. 5 years of utility locating experience.
2. Experience with ground penetrating radar (GPR).
3. Experience with CAD production on Wind, Solar, and Power Delivery projects.
4. Coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff.
5. Understanding of survey field procedures and the operation of survey field equipment.
