Family Support Worker

Day shifts - 7.30am - 8pm (3 shifts per week)
Level 3 diploma in children and young people, health and social care, or a willingness to begin this training within 6 months

We are recruiting now for Family Support Workers to work in our Residential Family Assessment and Support centre based in Bradford.

This Residential Family Centre provides a safe and supportive assessment environment for families who have areas of concern, but have the space to explore solutions regarding their ability to effectively and safely parent their child/children. We provide observations which are robust, evidenced based and child-centred, according to best practice and childcare legislation. We will work with families to instil hope and support them with developing their skills, knowledge and understanding so that they can provide the best care for their child/children.

Essential

  1. A good understanding and knowledge of issues that may affect families in the present day
  2. An awareness of equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory and inclusion practice
  3. Experience of working with vulnerable adults and/or children and young people
  4. Experience and knowledge of working in a team and the ability to communicate well with others
  5. Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults
  6. Experience of working in a residential social care setting

Responsibilities:

  1. To work in line with relevant policies and procedures of the centre
  2. To work directly with parents and their children to provide on-going family support as part of their parenting assessment
  3. To ensure residents live in a safe environment in line with health and safety and safeguarding policies and procedures
  4. To ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are maintained within the centre, including carrying out risk assessments and ensuring cleaning is taking place
  5. To work towards the National Minimum Standards and Family Centre Regulations 2002 and adhere to legislation around confidentiality, safeguarding, equality and diversity and inclusion policies
  6. To effectively use and monitor CCTV to gather evidence for parenting assessments
  7. To help service users with their learning, development and life skills
  8. To help service users build physical and emotional bonds with their child/ren through robust parenting sessions and informed evidence-based strategies
  9. To enhance parents' understanding of child development, education and play and the importance of this
  10. To maintain up-to-date and accurate logs, observations and records of all interactions so that these can inform weekly key worker and social worker reports, and assessments shared with the placing Local Authority
