The role of this Personal Care Assistant
Our personal care assistants join our client’s support team, providing reliable, essential care and support in their home. You will be employed by HomeCareDirect on behalf of the client and your focus will be to support them only. This role will be to work 30 hours a week, between the hours of 8am and 8pm.
About the Client and Duties
Our client is a young 33-year-old gentleman with a brain injury and multi-sensory impairment (MSI). You will join his support team to promote positive potential benefits for him, giving him the security he needs to access information, communicate and safely access his environment.
You will provide support to enable effective communication and the reception of clear information. Your support will enable our client to take full advantage of learning, vocational and social experiences/activities, thereby allowing fuller access and social interaction/outings in his community and the world.
You will liaise closely with the family and professionals involved in our client's day-to-day life and deliver a daily exercise regime based on his physiotherapy programme. The aim is to increase our client's confidence, encourage friendships and ensure his days are full of gainful and exciting experiences.
You will encourage him to do things for himself such as food preparation and general day-to-day home-based activities such as cleaning, washing clothes and planning his day. The emphasis of this role is to be a dependable, confident, fun and caring support worker to our client and will ensure that good communication is at the heart of everything.
Previous care experience is essential, particularly supporting clients with epilepsy and using complex communication methods. Being a driver is desirable and experience in using BSL and Makaton is also desirable, however, you will be expected to complete training in either BSL or Makaton as part of your induction.
