Mental Health Recovery Worker (Part-Time 35.25 hpw)

Are you looking for a rewarding and interesting job withing a friendly and supportive team? BHT Sussex is looking for a part-time Mental Health Recovery Worker to join our team at Archway. The Mental Health Recovery Worker will play a vital role in providing support at the Portland Road Archway project which is a residential service for adults with mental health care and support needs. Archway is regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and have a rating of ‘Outstanding’.

About the Role:

As a Mental Health Recovery Worker, you will be working for a people-led organisation whose mission and values is to inspire change across Sussex.

Mental health recovery workers provide practical support in a range of areas with an emphasis on clients developing life skills and confidence to live independently. They will ensure the day-to-day running of the service is carried out efficiently and effectively. This will involve dispensing medication, supporting clients to develop and build on their existing daily living skills, towards more independence. Staff provide invaluable, person-centred holistic support and develop professional relationships with clients based on trust, which will enable effective and empathic emotional support.

You will receive training to develop your skills and knowledge every year to aid your development, interests alongside.

This role will have two sleeping night shift and a variation of lates and early shifts over a two-week rolling rota. The service is staffed 24 hours and day with a mixture of team working and lone working. Sleeping night shifts are for emergency support and due to our recovery model means that often, you sleep through the night. You will be joining a friendly and experienced team, passionate about empowering clients to thrive. There are 2-3 staff on during the week and lone working during night shift once the late shift finishes. Weekend working is a combination of lone working and teamwork with another Mental Health Recover Worker. There is management support during the week and on call support during the evenings and weekend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support clients using a trauma-informed and recovery-focused approach to learn about their mental health and identify actions that improve and maintain positive wellbeing.
  • Support clients in developing life skills including self-care, cleaning, shopping and cooking.
  • Work alongside key-clients to develop a person-centred support plan that identifies individual, recovery-focused goals, which draws on personal strengths and resources and access to the support available.
  • Assist in the efficient domestic running of the project.
  • Participate in a work rota which can include daytime and night-time sleeping hours, as well as weekends and bank holidays.
  • Help develop and continually improve service delivery using a psychologically informed framework.
  • Develop positive supportive relationships with clients and carry out key working responsibilities for a small caseload.

About Archway:

Archway is a residential service offering 24-hour support for those with mental health care and support needs. The service provides holistic person centred and recovery focused care, which encourages independence by focusing on clients’ strengths and goals. We work closely with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust adult community mental health services to meet the needs of clients. We help bridge the gap between hospital and the community by encouraging people to develop a greater understanding of what keeps them well, safe and motivated, and we value collaborative working and co-production. The support the service offers to clients includes 1:1 support via a keyworker and team support, medication administration, the provision of food and meal support, wellbeing activities, and support to identify future accommodation opportunities.

Archway consists of three residential properties in Hove. This role will be based at Portland Road.

We have a recovery and person-centred focus, working collaboratively with residents in intensive short-term placements. The aim is to enable people to move on to more independent living.

Portland Road is a 9-bed service providing long term placements for people requiring 24-hr residential care and support with the aim of helping clients move on to less supported accommodation.
Step Down (Sackville Gardens) is a 5-bed service providing short-term (up to 16 weeks), intensive support for people who are medically fit to leave hospital and need support to develop their independence to move into longer-term accommodation.
Sackville Gardens is a 5-bed service providing long term placements for people requiring 24-hour residential care and support with the aim of helping clients move on to less supported accommodation. This is a new addition to the Archway service.

Rota and shift work:

The position is based on a two-week rolling rota with fortnightly weekend working.

Shift times:
Early: 09:00-17:00
Late: 11:00-19:00 or 13:00-19:00 depending on your weekly contracted hours.
Night shift: Awake 16:00-22:00. Sleeping: 22:00-08:00. Awake for 08:00-22:00. Total shift 18hours
