Qualifications

Job description

Day services promotes, supports and improves the mental, physical and emotional well-being of vulnerable people, in order that they can participate in their communities and with their families, and enjoy the best life possible. The aim of the service is to support vulnerable people to remain living in their own homes. An effective Day Service should aim to ensure that this group can participate in and help steer the services required, considering their specific needs. Day Services should also enable service users to make informed decisions and to facilitate access to services across the health, social and voluntary sectors.

Main duties of the job

Support Worker

Base: Day Services, Cromwell Road

37.5 hours

Permanent

Salary Range £21,841 (under 21) - £23,875 (over 21) per annum fixed salary point.

The post holder will review programmes for individual service users' care and development (including educational, work, leisure, physical and personal care and therapy) supporting Service Users to move towards independent living and work in consultation with families / carers. You will maintain service user records, both manual and electronic including but not limited to diary sheets, profile notes, reviews, emergency contacts etc. You will support and manage a range of behaviours of concern displayed by service users. You will attend to any medical appliances used by service users e.g., peg site, stoma sites, catheter bags, external urinary devices & callipers.

Excellent communication skills are required using a variety of methods and skills e.g. Signalong/Makaton to overcome barriers to understanding ensuring continued liaison with Service Users, their carers and families.

You will have a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience and previous experience of caring for people in either an employment or voluntary capacity for a minimum of 1 year is a mandatory requirement.

Experience
  • Previous experience of caring for people in either an employment or voluntary capacity for a minimum of 1 year
  • Experience of joint working with other agencies
Qualifications
  • Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care, equivalent experience or willing to complete within 18 months of appointment
  • Literacy and numeracy skills Level 2 or equivalent level of competence
