Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust

The Neurology Department is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to provide typing support for the Neurology department.

The post holder is expected to provide day to day secretarial and administrative services employing advanced audio typing skills with the use of medical terminology.

This post will provide you with an exciting challenge and give you the opportunity to play a key-supporting role in the development of the Service. It is a busy but rewarding department to work in with a great emphasis on teamwork and achieving departmental targets.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a comprehensive secretarial and administrative service to the triage team within the neurology department.
  • To support secretarial and administrative colleagues in meeting departmental objectives.

Person Specification

Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to communicate with people at all levels.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Required to use a VDU for long periods during the working day.
  • Required to undertake prolonged concentration.
  • Exposed to emotionally distressing and traumatic situations.
  • Ability to use transcription equipment.

Qualifications

  • RSA II or equivalent.
  • Qualification in medical secretarial studies.
  • Possession of ECDL qualification.

Knowledge

  • Good all round secretarial knowledge of all office practice and procedures.
  • A good understanding of Microsoft Office and Outlook, audio typing experience (RSA II or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of the Trust's current Information Technology systems (e.g. Medisec, Patient Centre, EPR, G2 dictation).

Experience

  • Significant experience in a hospital setting or similar.
