Job description

Role:
The aim of the Support at Home service is to offer support, encouragement and practical help to people in crisis, whether just leaving hospital or already in the community. From people recovering from illness, surgery or an accident, to struggling with a life changing event, Support at Home volunteers enable people to live as independently as they can at home, building trusting relationships and helping them regain their confidence and well-being. Working closely with health and social services colleagues, volunteers can make the difference in preventing an admission to hospital and supporting a timely discharge home.

Volunteers provide low level practical and emotional support for up to 6 weeks. This usually consists of weekly visits, which includes tasks such as shopping, confidence building, escorting to GP/hospital appointments and helping sort through mail/paperwork and assist to make phone calls.

Time commitment:
Flexible – dependent on volunteer availability.

About the organisation:
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. They are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.
