Job description

Purpose of the Role:

A high-performing Transactional Real Estate team is seeking a supervising lawyer to join its expanding Leeds practice. This role is non-client facing and does not require managing your own files. Instead, the focus is on supervising junior lawyers, particularly those in the 0-3 PQE band.

The supervising lawyer will:

  • Spend dedicated time on supervision, explaining points and rehearsing arguments that may otherwise be rushed.
  • Free up time for senior lawyers to focus on their responsibilities.
  • Address feedback from junior lawyers eager for quality supervision.

As a supplemental supervisor, you will provide guidance on an ad hoc basis, allowing for flexibility to engage when necessary. This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong track record in commercial property looking for a new challenge or part-time opportunity, particularly someone interested in developing future talent.

The Team:

The Real Estate Group is one of the largest, comprising nearly 200 members. The Leeds Transactional Real Estate team includes 6 partners and over 40 fee earners. Recognised as a Tier 1 ranked team, it recently won the Yorkshire Property Insider Awards and the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards for Real Estate Team of the Year in 2023. The team emphasises transactional expertise, offering a commercial and business-oriented approach to a diverse range of property matters.

What to Expect:

In this role, you will supervise lawyers working on various market-leading deals across commercial property sectors, including landlord and tenant, property management, sales and purchases, development & regeneration, and corporate support. As a senior team member, you will play a vital role in shaping the team's development.

You will work with top investors, developers, and occupiers, building relationships and providing timely, quality advice while managing expectations. Additionally, you will help identify training needs, provide feedback, and assist with larger projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Senior lawyer with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in complex commercial real estate matters.
  • Experience in developing junior lawyers with a strong inclination for teaching.
  • Enthusiasm for the law and a willingness to unpack legal principles.
  • Ability to adopt a consultative approach and maintain efficient task management.
  • Confidence in drafting clear, legally effective documents.
  • Strong engagement skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and team development.

Our Firm:

The firm values, encourages, and challenges its employees to reach their full potential in a supportive environment. The culture promotes improvement, growth, and collaboration, driving results and innovation while rewarding ambition. The firm prides itself on its diverse workforce and the employee networks that celebrate differences.

If you are ready to make a meaningful impact in the legal profession and shape the next generation of real estate lawyers, we encourage you to apply.
