ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Process Development Engineer will support the research and evaluation of current processes within the manufacturing plant. Working under the guidance of the Process Engineering Manager, the intern will gain hands-on experience working cross-functionally to evaluate the effectiveness of our processes and contribute to solutions that will result in increased yields, improved efficiencies, and increased throughput.

SCHEDULE: Are you a motivated college Senior student looking to gain hands-on experience in the process engineering field? Join The Oberto Snacks Team for a dynamic 3-month internship from May 2025 to September 2025, with the possibility of a full-time position if you’re the right fit!

WAGE: $22.00 per hour, subject to all tax and withholdings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work collaboratively with the Process Engineering team to support ongoing projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with projects investigating relationships between water activity and moisture in current products.
  • Conduct research, gather data, and generate reports on current products and process performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • This position will provide the opportunity to experience food product research activities in a corporate setting with exposure to production plant facilities.
  • Participate in product/process improvement and sensory testing.
  • 80% hands-on plant testing and research, 20% data processing.
  • Responsible for conducting, leading, and executing research projects to be presented to the company at the end of the period.
  • Communicate with cross-functional teams to coordinate plant tests.
  • Must be able to work in a wet, cold environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in food science, food engineering, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Previous coursework in food science or related fields is preferred but not required.
  • Experience developing and implementing plant test plans with an appropriate amount of detail for the size and scope of the test.
  • Microsoft Office computer software applications at a medium to expert user level.
  • Maintains active knowledge and understanding in areas beyond process development, including product and package development, quality assurance, project engineering, and thorough understanding of marketing needs and financial hurdles.
  • Utilize strong problem-solving skills to identify and resolve equipment and process issues in a timely manner.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.
  • Exhibits a professional attitude at all times; demonstrates a cooperative demeanor, and willingness to help others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and develop action plans based on results.
  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
  • Well organized; able to set priorities/goals and maintain focus and follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
