Student Welfare Officer (First Aid Support) - The Misbourne School

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Student Welfare Officer to work in a job share role for 13 hours per week, working alongside our student services team.

At the Misbourne, staff are our greatest asset, and you will be supported and challenged as part of a friendly, hardworking and dedicated team to provide terrific care for our young people.

The main responsibility is for first aid support to students and staff in case of injury or illness on school premises, assessing the situation, administering appropriate first aid treatment, and coordinating further medical care when necessary, while adhering to all relevant health and safety guidelines and maintaining accurate records of incidents.

Salary Type: Bucks pay

Salary details: Bucks Pay Range 3 - Actual salary (£8,187 - £8,782)

Contract type: Permanent

Hours: 13 hours per week, 38 weeks per year

About you

Requirements for the role:

  1. 3-day First Aid Qualification or willingness to take the 3-day qualification course
  2. Basic understanding of common childhood illnesses and injuries
  3. Strong communication skills - the ability to effectively communicate with students, staff, and families in emergency situations

Key responsibilities of the Student Welfare Officer role are to:

  1. Assess First Aid problems presented by students and staff, taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency and communicating with staff and families as necessary and recording information on ClassCharts.
  2. Be responsible for administering prescribed drugs which are necessary to be taken by students during the school day, ensuring that parental consent is obtained and recorded.
  3. Be responsible for the safe keeping of prescribed drugs in a locked cupboard, attend to minor medical needs of students, such as administering plasters, ice packs etc as required, and look after students who feel ill.
  4. To inform the Head Teacher in the event of more serious medical concerns and make the necessary arrangements for families to be contacted, advise on general health matters as presented by the staff and students, and communicate with families as appropriate.
  5. Co-ordinate, administer and maintain Individual Health Care Plans for students with specific medical needs in conjunction with families and any other relevant health care professionals.
  6. Meet with students returning to school after an injury which impacts mobility, hearing or sight and agree a personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP), liaising with the Assistant.
  7. Make arrangements for vaccination sessions, hearing tests, eye sight tests held by the Local Authority for the relevant age groups of students, undertaking the necessary communications and ensuring appropriate records are completed and retained.
  8. Enter all student medical information into SIMS, maintain accurate records in accordance with new and changing medical needs, and inform staff of relevant information, including for all school trips.
  9. Liaise with class teachers regarding confidential medical matters.
