The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.



We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.



These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won't be solved by science alone.



We are looking for a Strategic Partnerships, Lead to join our team.



Where in Wellcome will I be working?



You will be working as part of Government Relations and Strategic Partnerships (GRSP), reporting to the Head of Strategic Partnerships..



This is an exciting year to be joining Strategic Partnerships as we work with philanthropies, UN and multilateral agencies, and the private sector to have an impact on some of the biggest science and health challenges facing the world. You will get the opportunity to test out your partnership building acumen, working closely across Wellcome teams - especially our Research Programmes, Policy and Corporate Affairs teams. You'll broker impactful relationships with key partner organisations, aligned with our science and influencing goals, ad you'll bring insights from the external environment and support senior leaders in their engagements with key partners. You will build relationships to help ensure that the research we fund leads to impact for communities most affected by health challenges.. We are looking for someone with a collaborative mindset, a passion for creating and nurturing high-impact partnerships, , an interest in global health and international affairs, , and a drive to achieve change through collaboration with others.



What will I be doing?



As a Strategic Partnerships, Lead, you will:



  • Devise and oversee delivery of an ambitious set of strategic partnerships and related programmes of work for Wellcome, aligned with Wellcome's science and influencing goals; Work with Head of Strategic Partnerships to prioritise partnership opportunities, and collaborate with a range of Wellcome teams to realise these collaborations;


  • Oversee at least one sector strategy (related to our work with philanthropies, multilateral agencies or the private sector), driving a strategic and intentional approach to partnership building for Wellcome with this community of actors.


  • Lead, manage and motivate Strategic Partnerships team members to deliver key partnerships, ensuring the highest quality of work and developing and supporting individual team member performance as well as lead by example, making a strong personal contribution to design and delivery as the senior member of the Strategic Partnerships team


  • Oversee, design and implement key grants and contracts that align with the work of the Strategic Partnerships team, and provide a single senior contact and co-ordination point for colleagues across Wellcome requiring advice and support with strategic partner organisations


  • Embed a comprehensive and rigorous process that delivers clear shared vision, specific objectives, agreed milestones, and regular reporting and analysis on progress for each partnership and deputise for the Head of Strategic Partnerships as appropriate


  • Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the GRSP team and wider Wellcome, collaborating across departments.




Is this job for me?



We are looking for someone with:


  • Expertise in driving Strategic Partnerships for impact at an international level,, across countries and cultures


  • Experience of leading partnerships in health, research, or international development sectors - and with multilateral, philanthropic and/or private sector partners.


  • Positive and proactive collaborator, able to operate confidently across a wide range of stakeholders at a senior level as well as experience of planning complex partnerships and projects, managing them through to delivery, and overseeing others to do the same.


  • Experience of implementing relationship management approaches across complex organisations.

Our Hybrid Way of Working
