Job Description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

Coinbase is looking for a full-time contract Strategic Intelligence Specialist to join the Protective Intelligence team. The Specialist role will give you exposure to how we process intelligence, assess and manage risk, evaluate global geopolitical and security developments, conduct due diligence, carry out threat investigations, and stay compliant with background checks.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Preliminary research for reputational due diligence projects in support of mergers and acquisitions.
  • Hands-on social media research and screening.
  • Assist with investigations using OSINT, closed-source databases and powerful investigative tools.
  • Contribute to geopolitical intelligence reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct supporting investigative and/or risk research with Risk Management and Threat Investigations teams when necessary.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in global security, due diligence, investigations, research, journalism, international affairs, economics, data science, computer science, cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • A well-organized team player who is able to constantly learn and work with basic direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive information.
  • Effective interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and communication prowess.
  • B.A./B.S. degree or higher.
  • Professional fluency in English.

Nice to haves:

  • Relevant experience in security, backgrounds, investigations, risk management, or the public sector.
  • Advanced degree, bonus if it’s in International Affairs, Economics, Political Science, Data Science, Computer Science, Languages, or a similar area of study.
  • Professional proficiency in a foreign language.
  • Awareness of current events on a global scale.
  • Experience researching public records, including media and litigation databases and online research tools (e.g. Westlaw, LexisNexis, Pacer, Factiva, CLEAR, TLO, Wayback Machine, etc…)

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision).

Pay Range: £50,130 — £55,700 GBP

Please be advised that each candidate may submit a maximum of four applications within any 30-day period. We encourage you to carefully evaluate how your skills and interests align with Coinbase's roles before applying.
