Job description

About the role

The Finance Service in Cambridgeshire is focused on stewardship of funds on behalf of local taxpayers and promoting value for money across the County Council. We are a diverse team of finance professionals which is highly regarded across the organisation. The council has a strong focus on delivering services efficiently for residents and strong financial control.

We are recruiting for a Strategic Finance Business Partner to support the council's Place & Sustainability directorate, which covers services such as highways, major capital projects, waste disposal and environmental services. This post manages a team of finance professionals to deliver a high quality finance business partnering function. This post also provides the strategic business partner role to the council's Strategy & Partnerships directorate, drawing on support from across the wider finance team.

The role works alongside the Head of Finance and other strategic business partners as part of the Finance Management Team, shaping the work of the whole service.

Interviews are expected to take place in week commencing 16 December 2024.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for leading finance business partnering support to a portfolio of key council services, and being the business partner to two of the council's executive directors, building a culture of strong financial management across your team and services.

This will include managing finance support to services through the whole financial cycle, from medium-term financial planning and budget setting, to in-year financial monitoring, to accounts production. You will have a leading role in financial support to the directorate's ambitious capital programme, and will need to have a strong focus on financial governance, as well as working on business cases and major change activity.

About you

We are looking to appoint a committed and self-motivated finance professional to bring energy and expertise to this role. You will be a team builder, and able to manage a diverse workload directly and through team members. Building effective relationships with directors and services will also be key. It's a great opportunity for an experienced finance professional to help lead and support delivery of the council's ambitions.

This role is for a passionate accountancy professional to bring enthusiasm, curiosity and experience of working in a complex financial role. We will give you support and opportunities to develop, being part of a council that is committed to helping colleagues achieve their full potential.
