Job description

As a result of our clients' expansion plans and continued ongoing success, we are seeking a highly self-motivated Store Manager based in Chester.


In this role, you will lead by example and inspire our retail colleagues to maximise sales and deliver excellent customer service.


What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to show your retail management experience by driving sales and improving the store's performance, consistently meeting key performance indicators.


You must have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a coaching management style, being clear, open, and honest.


You will ensure retail colleagues are trained to the highest of standards whilst having the ability to take corrective action when necessary.


The successful candidate will have a passion for sales and a positive, can-do attitude towards their role. With experience in change management and a record of meeting targets, you will be career-focused and self-motivated to get the best from your team, with a good track record of running a significant retail operation and a strong profit motive.

In order to succeed in this role, you will be expected to have full control in the following areas:

Communication:

Ensure that all Store Senior Managers and Supervisors are informed of all aspects of store needs and that all Head Office deadlines are met.


Security:

Ensure that the integrity of the building, monies, and goods within by controlling all keys, safes, exits, entrances, activation, and deactivations of the alarm system.


Health & Safety:

  1. Comply with all Legal & Company Health & Safety regulations within the store for customers and staff.
  2. Liaise with the Public Fire, Health and Safety, and Environment Departments and keep up to date with the current legislation.
  3. Ensure the safe use of machinery, electrical equipment, manual handling, and general housekeeping of the store.
  4. Keep written records of fire alarm tests, accidents, and electrical testing. Prepare a weekly Health & Safety report.
  5. Keep all risk assessments up to date and ensure risk assessments are completed on all pregnant members of staff. Make sure the store has a fully functional and working Health & Safety committee; that meetings are held regularly and minutes published on the staff notice board.

Personnel:

Rotas:

You must ensure that:

  1. The weekly staff rotas are organised and adhered to.
  2. You monitor and ensure that rotas are evenly balanced over peak and lows of the trading periods.
  3. The store has sufficient management and supervisor cover at all times.

Staff performance:

You must ensure that:

  1. All staff are correctly adhering to the dress code, including name badges at all times.
  2. You observe and maintain staff timekeeping at all times.
  3. You monitor staff performance and motivation.

Merchandising and Stock Control:

You must ensure that:

  1. Liaise with all buyers on all stock issues.
  2. Ensure all promotional items are effectively displayed with POS.
  3. Ensure all store presentation and merchandising meets Company standards. Monitor all stock deliveries as per Company procedures and periodically spot-check vehicles entering and leaving the site.
  4. Ensure any stock movement, i.e., in-store transfers, has authorisation. Ensure all customer collections and deliveries are signed for in the correct manner.

Daily Inspection:

You are responsible for:

  1. Pre-opening morning store checks to ensure that the checkout and customer service areas are clear, tidy, and ready for the start of business.
  2. Inspecting each department within the store, checking the standards of housekeeping, merchandising, and stock levels, and identifying any problem areas. Allocate staff to position trolleys and baskets at the store entrance and ensure there are hand baskets available under scan-points around the store.
  3. Checking the interior and exterior of the building for cleanliness and security.
  4. Checking the rubbish and waste paper skips.
  5. Checking fire exits.
  6. Instigating and monitoring POS.
  7. Ensuring security and safety of staff and the building prior to the closing of the store.

Financial:

You must ensure that:

  1. Review the sales figures daily.
  2. Spot check all cash office monies including petty cash.
  3. Ensure all monies are banked and ready for authorised secure collection.
  4. Monitor all till discrepancies and investigations.
  5. Prepare monthly sales reports for the Regional Manager, Retail Ops Manager, and Directors. Keep within all spending budgets.
  6. Ensure all write downs and demics are recorded accurately each day and that Company procedure is adhered to. Monitor and authorise all staff purchases and discounts.
  7. Check customer refunds and credit notes each day to ensure correct authorisation.
