About The Role

UNLOCK YOUR BEST WORK LIFE

+ make a difference for every patient

New and exciting change is taking place in our Sterile Services (CSSD) department at one of our flagship hospitals in Emersons Green, Bristol!

Due to the growing number of treatments we are now giving to patients and with the increasing external support we are offering to other healthcare centres, our busy, detailed and professional Sterile Services department has a new opening for a Sterile Services Technician to join and be part of our fun team in supporting the Sterile Services Manager in ensuring a continuously effective decontamination and sterile supplies service.

Working in close cooperation with theatres, the Sterile Services Technician will provide an effective service for the needs of surgeons and patients.

This is a permanent position (37.5 hpw)
Working Monday to Friday - with 2 Saturday shifts per month

Hours based on two shift patterns:

Early - 07:00 - 15:00
Late - 11:00 - 19:00

Potential Bank Holiday working - but not routine

What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Sterile Services Manager, the Sterile Services Technician will be accountable for the reprocessing of reusable medical devices, which will involve washing, disinfecting, and sterilising theatre equipment.
You'll help to maintain supplies inventories and stock levels, keeping accurate records maintained on our computer system tracking various theatre items and instruments. This will include daily validation testing and recording.

You'll monitor all procedures and report malfunctions of sterilisers and washer-disinfectors to the Sterile Services Manager and record the details on forms.

You will participate in conducting planned audits, looking at particulars such as equipment being correctly labelled and available as required and that equipment leaving the centre is correctly documented.

You will need to be focused in your work as concentration is required at all times during the decontamination and packing process. Care is also required when dealing with contaminated sets due to the possibility of sharps being left on trays, resulting in exposure to body fluids when working in the decontamination area.

What we'll look for in you
We see the appointed Sterile Services Technician coming from a very similar background, being a strong team player, and having a good working appreciation of decontamination processes within a healthcare/surgical environment.

There is a requirement to stand while carrying out duties in all production areas, with a frequent requirement to exert a moderate to high physical effort whilst unloading and loading trolleys into the autoclaves and washer-disinfectors.

You will need to be focused in your work as concentration is required at all times during the decontamination and packing process.

You will be an effective communicator at all levels, both written and verbal, with a good degree of computer literacy.

The role requires applicants to preferably have Hepatitis B and TB vaccinations; however, Practice Plus Group will put successful applicants through a course if there is no evidence of immunisation.
