About the Opportunity:

Shell Canada is seeking a Stakeholder Relations Advisor to join the Corporate Relations team at part of our Shell Sarnia Refinery.

The Corporate Relations function connects Shell to the world and the world to Shell. Our mission is to build trust and help deliver improved business outcomes in each of our regions, bringing important insights internally while influencing the external landscape. Acting with courage, we provide expert insights and deliver functional excellence. Regional Teams enhance trust with governments, communities and other stakeholders to ensure our license to operate. We identify, analyze and mitigate risk to support business value. We act as a mirror for our leaders as we represent Shell’s values. We provide advice to Country Chairs, helping them drive staff engagement and shape the external environment.

Accountabilities:

  1. Act as lead for Shell Sarnia’s social performance delivery, including social investment, social impact management, and local content.
  2. Lead and deliver local community and Indigenous relationship management, including impact management, community participation activities, and engagement with high-priority community and industry groups.
  3. Develop content and channel management for media, social media and digital, along with site-level internal communications.
  4. Provide guidance and approval on all external requests, presentations, tour requests, and external reporting for the region.
  5. Represent Shell at community and Indigenous partnership events.
  6. Lead community engagement initiatives for Shell Sarnia.
  7. Ensure social and reputational opportunities and risks are assessed at an early stage, mitigated or leveraged, and integrated into business plans.

Requirements:

  1. Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in social science or any other related field.
  3. Minimum 5 years of experience in community engagement experience and stakeholder relationship management.
  4. Deep understanding of stakeholder and indigenous landscape in Sarnia and Ontario.
  5. Experience supporting and knowledge of energy, mining or industrial.
  6. Working knowledge in social impact assessment and social risk management.
  7. Willingness to travel regionally up to 10%.
  8. Strong communication capabilities combined with the ability craft formal communications to a variety of external audiences.

This role is based in Sarnia, Ontario. Candidates who live in surrounding areas such as London, Ontario or Toronto, Ontario are encouraged to express interest. The expectation for this team member is to work 3 days from the Sarnia Refinery or make visits to local stakeholder sites, combined with the ability to work approximately 2 days per week remotely from home if desired. Relocation support will be provided as per the Shell policy if this new hire is relocating provinces or relocating within Ontario for this opportunity.
