Job description

Do you value working as part of a team who recognises your hard work and dedication to your patients?

Are you looking to develop your career and promote excellent respiratory care?

The Acute Lung Unit at Royal Bournemouth Hospital is looking to welcome a new Band 5 Staff Nurse!

Tell me about the Ward?

The respiratory ward manages the exciting balance of acuity, palliative and everything in between. Our patient group covers a diverse range from young asthmatics to exacerbations of COPD and patients with lung cancer. We are also home to the Acute Lung Unit, where we provide acutely unwell patients with Non-Invasive Ventilation and Nasal High Flow Oxygen.

Why is this Ward special?

We have a truly excellent team working environment including social events, newsletters and regular Ward Meetings – where we celebrate the staff who have gone above and beyond. As well as this, we have an excellent development program and encourage staff to bring their own amazing improvement ideas to the table.

We are passionate about providing person-centred care and staff are often seen creating opportunities to provide 'out-of-the-box' ways to make our patients feel better.

An active UK NMC registration is required for this role

How will my development be supported?

We offer acute training and a competency programme in speciality areas including Non-Invasive Ventilation and a chest drain competency. Proficiency in each area is supported by senior staff on the ward, our Clinical Education team and Critical Care Outreach. You will also have the opportunity to have weekly respiratory study sessions.

What do we need from you?

While we don’t need a minimum level of experience in this speciality, we do need you to have a good sense of humour, be improvement-minded and be ready to muck in with the team.
