Main duties of the job

About us

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust in the south-east of England.

We provide a full range of general hospital services and some aspects of specialist and complex care to around 600,000 people living in West Kent and East Sussex. We have a team of over 8,000 full and part-time staff. We also provide specialist cancer services to around 2 million people across Kent and East Sussex via the Kent Oncology Centre. Fordcombe Hospital is near Tunbridge Wells and became part of the Trust in October 2024. It focuses on planned care and has two operating theatres, 28 inpatient and day care beds, diagnostic services including X-ray, MRI, CT and endoscopy, and a number of consultation and treatment rooms.

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust's 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential

• First level registered nurse registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council

Desirable

• Evidence of further education since qualification
• Mentorship/ Preceptorship course (or equivalent)
• Advance Life Support provider

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential

• Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a newly qualified nurse.
• Understanding of equality and diversity and how to apply it to self.
• Understanding of NMC Code and requirements of it for own practice and behaviour.
• Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and the NHS

Desirable

• Experience in an emergency department setting
• Proficient clinician and clinical role model
• Understanding of audit and benchmarking processes
