Job description

Staff Nurses are responsible for the delivery of care and the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individual programs of care. They are expected to take delegated responsibility in a given shift for a group of patients. With experience, they may be expected to take charge of the department in the absence of the Sister/Charge Nurse or Floor coordinator. Staff Nurses need to be aware of the required Government Targets and their contribution to achieving these.

Education & Qualification

  • NMC Registration
  • BLS
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • ALS / PILS
  • ILS
  • Triage training

Experience & Knowledge

  • Research aware
  • Awareness of current political/professional and operational issues
  • Previous acute experience within the NHS
  • Experience in audit/research activities
  • Previous experience at band 5

Skills & Abilities

  • IV drug administration
  • Cannulation
  • Venepuncture
  • Ability to mentor
  • Ability to assist in creating a good learning environment
  • Identify and escalate to senior staff member if a patient is deteriorating.
