Job description

Newhaven Lodge is comprised of 8 single bedrooms offering 24 hour care 7 days a week for individuals with complex mental health needs. It is situated in Gillingham at Medway Maritime Hospital and is one of 6 Rehabilitation Units across Kent, which provides inpatient Recovery and Rehabilitation.

The Rehabilitation Service provides assessments and a variety of treatment interventions within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), who work closely together to provide a flexible approach in order to meet clients’ needs and requirements and to provide the best quality care.

Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated registered mental health nurse to join our experienced multi-disciplinary team at Newhaven Lodge. The role includes:

  • Supporting the Unit Manager in the smooth running of the Unit and taking an active leadership role in running shifts.
  • Undertaking specialist assessments and identifying rehabilitation goals with clients who have a range of complex mental health needs.
  • Acting as Named Nurse to a defined caseload of clients within the Unit and working with them in a recovery-focused model to develop individualized and person-centered care plans.
  • Promoting effective treatment of clients through the safe management and administration of medication.
  • Working across a 24 hour shift pattern, 7 days a week.
  • Managing the shift when on duty & coordinating the workload for junior staff; delegation.
  • Having a good understanding of the Mental Health Act, Safeguarding frameworks & clinical documentation.
  • Administering & dispensing medication (medication management).
  • Championing recovery-oriented practice, including group work, & facilitating the therapeutic intervention programme.
  • Following Health and Safety protocols & Policies.
  • Risk management & patient safety.
  • Delivering effective & quality care alongside patients.
  • Keeping up to date with mandatory & CPD requirements (Trust Policy / NMC Revalidation).
  • Demonstrating good mental health assessment & intervention skills.
  • There is a strong commitment to supervision, training & regular appraisal, which you will receive & deliver to named staff.
  • Working as part of the MDT on the Unit.
  • Demonstrating effective communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Having a good knowledge of physical health monitoring & documentation.
