About the role:

The Becton Dickinson Software Technology Solutions Division (STS) seeks a hands-on Sr. Engineering Manager focused on building and maintaining a Clinical Interface Engine.

This position requires an enthusiastic leader with a rare mix of intelligence, integrity, and technical skill that allows you to focus on building a team through mentoring, coaching, hiring, and solving challenging technical problems.

This highly collaborative position will partner with and advise multiple teams by guiding the creation and consumption of clinical data.

Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of a scalable, high-performance Health data interface engine.
2. Create clear and well-thought-out technical design artifacts with careful considerations of system dependencies, failure states, maintainability, testability, and ease of support.
3. Partner with the Architecture, PM, DevOps, and cross-functional stakeholders to guide the articulation and execution of the strategic roadmap of the team and its alignment with the vision of overall program.
4. Develop and implement performance metrics to monitor and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of high volume HL7 v2 interfaces.
5. Apply software engineering best practices (version control, continuous integration, etc.) spanning the entire code base.
6. Work with program management to establish key delivery milestones and manage engineering risks that may adversely impact the program.
7. Facilitates decisions on the scope of work, duration of tasks, and determination of design requirements.
8. Attracts, develops, and retains BD associates.
9. Work in a collaborative environment to ensure a shared understanding of complex topics.
10. Contribute to and lead process improvement initiatives across the entire department.

Experience Required:

1. 10+ years of experience in working on Health Technology Environment, with a proven track record of success in developing and maintaining scalable, high-volume data interfaces with 3+ years working in a Cloud environment.
2. Minimum of 5+ years’ experience leading teams and managing direct reports.
3. Strong knowledge of industry leading HL7 interface engineers such as Iguana, Intersystem.
4. Experience with design and development experience with HL7 FHIR, HL7 CDA, and HL7 v2.
5. Hands-on experience working with AWS and serverless technologies.
6. Experience leading change in modern software development practices and continuous delivery.
7. Designing system with observability to identify and respond to anomalies, failures, degradation of performance.
8. Strong understanding of cloud system’s architecture and design.
9. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams.
10. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into actionable plans.
11. Experience with programming languages (Golang, Python, Java).
12. Experience with Agile methodologies and implementing DevOps practices.
13. Demonstrated positive work ethic with a strong commitment to achieving project goals.
14. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
