Job Opportunity: Development-Focused DBA (SQL Server)

Are you a proactive, development-focused Database Administrator with a passion for optimizing performance and improving SQL practices? We’re seeking an experienced DBA to join my client’s team, focused on enhancing database functionality and advising development teams on SQL best practices.

Purpose of the Role

As a Development-Focused DBA, you’ll be instrumental in supporting the development teams with expert guidance on database management, query optimization, and SQL Server best practices. You’ll play a key role in identifying non-performant queries, implementing solutions, and collaborating with development teams to ensure our database systems are efficient, secure, and highly available.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Performance Optimization: Identify, restructure, and optimize poorly performing SQL queries through indexing or other methods to improve system performance.
  2. Development Support: Work closely with development teams to guide SQL design decisions, ensuring efficient database structures and operations.
  3. Best Practices: Offer expert advice on SQL best practices, addressing issues when bad practices are encountered and helping teams create effective query designs.
  4. SQL Server Management: Collaborate with the Senior DBA to manage SQL Server databases and oversee server configuration, maintenance, and process improvements.
  5. System Health Monitoring: Proactively monitor database systems to maintain high levels of performance, availability, and security, addressing issues as they arise.
  6. Security and Compliance: Implement and manage SQL security policies in alignment with organizational standards, ensuring data security and compliance.
  7. Automation and Documentation: Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes for system clarity and efficiency.
  8. Maintenance and Support: Assist with after-hours scheduled maintenance to support database continuity.
