Job description

The chaplaincy service in the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is seeking to recruit a full-time chaplain with a lead role in project development and well-being. The department is constantly looking for new and creative ways to provide spiritual and pastoral care in a changing society.

Supporting staff in the workplace has been a regular feature of the chaplaincy service, and the department is looking to build on our success with new ideas and projects. This post will have lead responsibility for project development and well-being.

You will have a high degree of self-awareness and a real aptitude for sensitively coming alongside all those who use and provide our Health Board services. You will be a reflective chaplaincy practitioner who constantly strives to improve your own practice and that of the chaplaincy team.

We are looking for applicants who are enthusiastic and motivated, who are ready to learn new skills and develop your own knowledge and understanding of spirituality in a healthcare setting. The chaplaincy service continues to be a resource of support to Health Board staff and we wish to strengthen and grow these services into the future.

Main duties of the job

Prospective candidates should be appropriately qualified and trained to work in the spiritual care arena.

AfC Band 6 (Starting point is dependent on previous experience).

Person Specification

Authorisation, accreditation, licence

  • Will have the authority of a sponsoring body who support and accredit roles within healthcare chaplaincy.
  • Has a proven record of working in roles with transferable skills.

Training, knowledge, skills and experience

  • Can demonstrate the application of training and knowledge in key work roles.
  • Has practical experience and competence.
  • Has knowledge of bereavement counselling/support.

Will have appropriate qualifications for the role

  • Degree level or equivalent in experience/study.
  • Evidence, training, and knowledge of pastoral care, counselling.
  • Ability to speak and use the Welsh language whenever possible.
