Job description

  • Post: Speech and Language Therapist / Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
  • Full time:40 hours per week / Monday to Friday, between 9:00am and 5:00pm
  • Salary: £29,544 - £36,807 per year dependent upon experience

We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join our dedicated and passionate MDT at Cygnet Wast Hills.

This post would be suitable for a newly qualified SLT (Band 5 equivalent) looking for their first post or an established SLT wishing to build on post-graduate experiences to pursue a role developing a specialism in the fields of Learning Disability, Autism and Mental Health (Band 6 equivalent).

Set in a beautiful location, Cygnet Wast Hills provides support for 21 individuals with Autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. The team also supports individuals who may be detained under the Mental Health Act, as well as those who have complex behaviours, or who have significant difficulties with social engagement.

In line with building the right support, the site will support 8 individuals in the main house as well as 13 bespoke single occupancy flats, enabling the service to provide support to individuals who have different levels of need in their own space which is tailored to their own sensory needs.

This role also provides support to individuals who may require SLT input at Willow House, a specialist residential service for adults with learning disability, complex needs and behaviours that may challenge.

Job Role
  • You will have a unique opportunity to support the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting, implementing and embedding functional communication systems; this is a hands-on role with high levels of contact with individuals in the care of the service.
  • You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment.
  • You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite hospital manager at Cygnet Wast Hills.
  • Postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is desirable but we are able to support you towards gaining accredited training if this is an area for your personal development.
  • A full-time SLT Assistant will support you in the delivery of Speech and Language therapy interventions at this location.
We are looking for someone with:
  • HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Experience or strong interest in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
  • Dysphagia training (desirable - training available)
  • Excellent communication & time management skills
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
