Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist
Biborough SLT Education Team - Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea

We have the opportunity for an NQP or experienced Band 5 therapist to join the Biborough SLT education team. The post includes working with a varied caseload across schools in the inner London boroughs of Westminster, and Kensington & Chelsea. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and team-working skills, and an interest and experience of working with school-aged children and young people.

Main duties of the job

  1. Working with increasing independence to provide assessment, diagnosis, appropriate intervention and discharge for children within the role.
  2. Working closely with children, families and other professionals, providing advice to others regarding the clinical management to support children and young people as relevant to the post.
  3. Supporting the delivery of a wide range of school aged intervention packages in relation to the whole system approach to supporting speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) within designated locality community & school settings.
  4. Understanding and meeting professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children's Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  5. Maintaining accountability for own professional actions and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice - Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT.

Experience

  • Working with children in clinics and/or school based settings.
  • Experience Training others.
  • Working with multi-cultural client groups.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal, non-verbal and written.
  • Working in partnership with other members of the MDT.
  • Working in collaboration with children and young people, parents/carers and families.
  • Highly developed auditory and perceptual skills in the assessment diagnosis and treatment of children with a broad range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
  • Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically.
  • Valuing and advocating for all communication styles and preferences.
  • Understanding of child development including Speech and Language, Play and other milestones.
  • Knowledge of appropriate range of assessments and interventions for children with Speech, Language and Communication needs and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits to individual children.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance.
  • Knowledge of principles and models of Adult-Child Interaction.

Key Attributes

  • IT literate and able to use a range of specialist programmes.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£35,964 to £43,780 a year per annum, inclusive of HCAS.
