About The Role

Speech and Language Therapist

Location: Dan Y Coed, Swansea
Salary: £25,845.38 (Term time only), FTE: £32,770.50
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Term-time only)

About Us:

At Orbis Education & Care, Dan Y Coed in Swansea supports children and young people with complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), sensory impairments, and social and emotional challenges. We are seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team and provide high-quality therapy to help children and young people improve their communication and related skills.

About the Role:

As a Speech and Language Therapist at Dan Y Coed, you will work closely with a dynamic team to deliver specialised interventions that support children and young people with communication needs. Through assessments, targeted therapy, and collaborative work with teachers, families, and other professionals, you will help create a learning environment where every child can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver speech and language therapy using a variety of models, including individual, group, and multidisciplinary sessions.
2. Assessment/Diagnosis: Conduct assessments to evaluate communication, eating, and drinking difficulties, using specialist tools and advanced reasoning to establish support plans.
3. Collaborative Approach: Work closely with the education team to integrate speech and language therapy goals into individual education plans (IEPs) and the wider curriculum.
4. Ongoing Review: Regularly monitor and review the progress of communication and related needs, adapting therapy interventions as required.
5. Training and Support: Provide advice, training, and support to staff and families on communication strategies and how to implement speech and language interventions.
6. Dysphagia and AAC: Assess and support children with dysphagia (eating and drinking difficulties), and advise on the use of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) tools where appropriate.
7. Program Development: Create and implement individual and group therapy programmes that produce positive outcomes with a person-centred approach.
8. Specialist Knowledge: Manage a complex caseload of children and young people with a range of complex needs.
9. Clinical Leadership: Lead by example, offering guidance to junior SLT practitioners and participating in the development of the SLT clinical team.

Qualifications & Experience:

1. HCPC Registration and a relevant professional degree/diploma in Speech and Language Therapy.
2. Proven post-registration experience in the relevant specialism, particularly with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex needs.
3. Experience in planning and implementing speech and language therapy for children with a range of needs.
4. Knowledge of recent legislation relating to SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and experience working within this framework.
5. Willingness to undertake further training in areas such as PECS, Dysphagia, AAC, and Makaton.
