Speech and Language Teaching Assistant

Location: Islington, London
Start Date: After Easter Holidays (April 2025)
Contract: Full-Time until July 2025
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a Speech and Language Teaching Assistant to support a KS1 child with communication needs on a 1:1 basis in a mainstream primary school in Islington. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant with knowledge of PECS and sign language to make a meaningful impact.

• Providing 1:1 support to a KS1 child with speech and language difficulties.

• Using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and sign language to aid communication.

• Implementing tailored learning strategies to help the child engage with the curriculum.

• Working closely with the SENCO, Speech and Language Therapists, and class teacher to track progress.

• Creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

• Experience supporting children with speech and language difficulties.

• Knowledge of PECS and sign language is highly preferred.

• Strong understanding of early years/KS1 development and communication strategies.

• A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs.

• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
