Job description

Specification Technologist (Food sector)

Location: Spalding, Lincolnshire

Salary: £27,000 - £32,000 per annum, dependant on experience

Hours: Full time office based, plus flexible Fridays

The Role

Our client is seeking a well-organised and experienced Specifications Technologist who is adept at using their initiative to meet tight deadlines. This role is a newly created position and will be a pivotal role within Freeworld Foods Technical & Development team, involving both individual and team work, requiring clear communication with internal teams, departments, retailers, and third parties.

The ideal candidate will be fully IT literate with proficiency in the Microsoft packages and have experience in the food industry. A strong passion for the food industry and experience in a fast-paced FMCG environment are essential for success in this role. You will be engaging directly with customers and must feel confident communicating across all levels of the retailer customer's product specification systems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Write and complete all finished product specifications for retailers, customers, and own brand products to a gold standard.
  2. Manage and administer retailer systems, including specification completion and communicating system notifications internally to the correct personnel.
  3. Manage customer technical information databases and generate pack copies for own brand specifications, including sub and legal name generation.
  4. Review and approve artwork, update and maintain QAS documents when product information is amended.
  5. Attend NPD critical path meetings and other meetings relevant to the role.
  6. Support raw material risk assessment and supplier approval processes as required.
  7. Maintain awareness of supplier approval, raw material specification knowledge, BRC, retailer audit requirements, and relevant legislation/regulation.

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Experience working in the food industry.
  2. IT literacy, including the use of retailer specification systems.
  3. Previous experience writing gold standard retail specifications.
  4. Knowledge of retailer systems such as Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland, Asda, M&S.
  5. Ability to work under pressure and manage tight turnaround times.
  6. Strong time management, team collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  7. Flexible and adaptable work approach.
  8. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with internal personnel and external customers including third parties.
  9. Desired experience in legal labelling.
  10. Proficient in the full Microsoft package.
