Job description

We are looking for a Speciality Doctor to join Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust Occupational Health team. As a Speciality Doctor in a supportive team, you will be at the centre of improving the lives of our staff.

Our Occupational Health service has a new leadership team, who are dedicated to improving the service we provide. We are committed to delivering the best service for LTHT staff and that means that there are exciting opportunities for Speciality Doctors who want to deliver OH services in new and innovative ways.

We are looking to recruit a full time Speciality Doctor with the potential to consider job share or part time, to work alongside our existing Lead Clinician and clinical team. The post will be based at St James Hospital when working on site, with options to work some sessions from home.

The Team delivering our Occupational Health Service includes nurses in bands 5 and 7, Occupational Therapist, a sessional psychiatrist and a clinical psychologist. Excellent communication and team working skills and a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential. As is a drive to deliver OH differently, the ability to challenge old ways of thinking and the ambition to continuously improve the service.

The post holder will be a fully registered medical practitioner, who is eligible for entry onto the GMC specialist register for Occupational Medicine. Must hold or be working towards the Diploma in Occupational Medicine (or equivalent).

Main duties of the job

The Speciality Doctor Occupational Health reports managerially and professionally to the Lead Clinician Occupational Health.

Service specific

The Speciality Doctor Occupational Health will work alongside the Occupational Health team as a specialist clinician for the service. The OH team reports to Head of HR - Health and Wellbeing. This post is to work alongside our existing substantive Consultants and MDT team.

The role of Speciality Doctor Occupational Health will be expected to:

  1. Provide specialist Occupational Medicine advice to the clients and customers of the Occupational Health Service.
  2. Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  3. Contribute to teaching and audit.
  4. Participate in Clinical Governance.
  5. Provide Clinical Leadership in agreed areas of service delivery.
  6. Contribute to speciality training.
  7. Contribute to new service developments.
  8. Provide treatment, urgently when indicated, following certain occupational injuries/exposures to infection.
  9. Contribute to clinical leadership within the department.

SPECIALTY DOCTOR IN OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE

2. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

As part of our continued Health and Wellbeing offer to staff, we are looking to recruit a substantive Speciality Doctor. This is a full-time 10 PA appointment (or part-time) for a Speciality Doctor who will work alongside our Lead Clinician and MDT team to provide clinical support and expertise. The post holder will take the lead in key areas of our multi-disciplinary service to provide high standards of care. The post will support the services portfolio of work and continue to raise the profile of the Occupational Health Service throughout the Trust and partner organisations.

3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST

3.1 General Training and Qualifications

The appointee must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Occupational Health.

He/She will have an understanding of current NHS management and Trusts and be aware of the responsibilities that a specialty doctor post brings.

3.4 Clinical Audit

The appointee will be expected to contribute to Audit meetings, client reviews and application of agreed clinical guidelines.

In the discharge of these responsibilities the appointee will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.

4. TEACHING

The Trust as a Teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds School of Medicine for the Undergraduate teaching and all medical staff are expected to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme. The precise details of the contribution to teaching will be discussed with the appointee after taking up post.

5. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTS

The job plan review will take place annually, normally with the managing consultant or Lead Clinican. The annual job plan review may result in a revised prospective job plan. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.
