Job summary

We are currently looking for a Speciality Doctor for short-term cover in the South Westminster Home Treatment Team, based at the Gordon Hospital.

The post is a full time role (10 PA's) consisting of 8.5 PA DCC & 1.5 PA SPA time, with an anticipated start date of 1st of June 2025. Dr Rebecca Hatton is the part time substantive consultant and named clinical supervisor for this post and weekly clinical supervision is provided by Dr Hatton. There is a FY (Foundation Year) doctor on the team and Dr Arabo Shahenian, NWHTT consultant provides cross-cover for the team when Dr Hatton is not around and is named clinical supervisor for this post.

Main duties of the job

Westminster Home Treatment Team is an acute mental health service that provides an alternative to hospital admission and facilitates early discharge. The team provides intensive management and support to people in the community.

Westminster Home Treatment Team has two bases - one in the South of the Borough (at the Gordon Hospital) and the other in the North of the borough (Woodfield Road). This role will be based in South Westminster. The doctors provide cross cover in terms of medical support. There may be infrequent occasions where team requests phone advice or assistance in prescribing, if they do not have any doctors available.

Job responsibilities
  1. Conduct medical reviews of patients under HTT care, as allocated in Clinical Review Meetings, or as requested by team or Consultant Psychiatrist.
  2. Reviews primarily take place at the base (Gordon Hospital) or in patients homes.
  3. Prescribing and review of medication of patients on the caseload, including monitoring side effects.
  4. Provide consultation to the rest of the team, undertaking reviews with other team members, attending professionals meetings.
  5. Support of team particularly regarding risk management, including where it may be appropriate to escalate to emergency services/ MHAA/ MHCAS.
  6. Attend team Clinical Review Meetings (CRM), team reflection meetings and service development meetings as needed.
  7. Carry out liaison and collaborative working with other services/agencies and across internal interfaces as necessary for patient care and service development. This includes but is not limited to inpatient services, community teams, AMHPs, safeguarding services and Psychology.
  8. Ensure that patients physical health needs are addressed, with support from the Foundation Year (FY) team doctor.
  9. Carry out regular review and monitoring of the caseload including via consultant supervision to ensure discharges facilitated to maintain patient flow, including collaborative working with community teams to transition care where appropriate.
  10. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner, physical health recording, progress note entries, and risk assessments for patients on caseload.
  11. Keep up to date with appraisals, mandatory training, all revalidation requirements.
  12. Attend an SAS peer group for RCpsych CPD purposes and remain in good standing with RCPsych for CPD at all times.
