University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW)

This is the advert for a Band 7 Surgical Specialist Pharmacist role based at Weston General Hospital, within UHBW.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintain and develop clinical pharmacy services to the Surgical Division including outpatients, front door and other medical wards at Weston General Hospital.
  • Liaise with the relevant senior pharmacy, medical and nursing staff to promote safe and effective use of medicines within the Surgical division.
  • Provide information and support to the Surgical Division on drug usage and expenditure and work with senior clinicians in the directorate to maximise clinical effectiveness of medicines used and minimise cost.
  • Develop, with senior clinicians in the directorate, a robust medicines-related audit programme.
  • Participate in the training of pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, undergraduate pharmacists and other pharmacy and NHS staff.

Job responsibilities

Weston Pharmacy is a great department to work in; small enough to provide a close, friendly and supportive working environment. The hospital covers a broad range of specialties, from ED, ITU, Oncology, paediatrics, palliative care, and a medical and surgical floor each. It also benefits from being part of a larger organisation in UHBW, working in partnerships with a tertiary centre and all the many specialisms there.

Qualifications and Training
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Independent prescribing qualification, or currently working towards attaining
Knowledge and Experience
  • Evidence of UK hospital pharmacy experience
  • Previous experience of audit or quality improvement
  • Experience of one-to-one and small group teaching
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing and administration of medicine
  • Knowledge and experience of Surgical medicine including common pharmaceutical care issues in this patient population
  • Previous experience of line management or mentorship of junior pharmacists
