Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, MLD

London Borough of Merton
London
GBP 40,000 - 60,000
Job description

Our excellent educational speech and language therapy service has a full-time post, equivalent to NHS BAND 6 in our special school for students with moderate learning difficulties. You would be joining an established small team at the school with a clinical lead, who are part of the wider speech and language therapy service for the London Borough of Merton.

If you are already a confident Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (S&LT) with experience of MLD and are looking for an exciting opportunity to further develop your clinical skills and contribute to service development, please get in touch.

We would also be happy to consider band 5 therapists (or equivalent) who feel ready to step up to the role of a Specialist S&LT within a vibrant and expanding team and consolidate and develop their clinical skills in MLD.

You will be able to contribute to the delivery of the service from Reception to post-16, working as a valued part of the friendly and supportive multidisciplinary teams across the school.

You will be able to add to the school's offers of evidence-based approaches, where the speech and language therapy team works within a dynamic multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.

You will have knowledge of, or be able to develop with support, good practice models for working with children with MLD, at individual and group levels as well as whole school approaches.

You will be able to work directly with pupils, parents, teachers, school staff, managers, and other agencies as well as colleagues in the Language and Learning Support Team.

If you have insight (or wish to develop your clinical skills) into the range of speech and language difficulties students with MLD may experience, are motivated, and enjoy collaborative working, then you are the person we are looking for.

The Speech & Language Therapy Service is part of the Merton Language and Learning Support Team. This relatively young, small, friendly, and supportive team is clinically led by Speech and Language Therapists and has strong links with teaching universities in London. We deliver the statutory service to children and young people attending schools in Merton and are also developing our universal and targeted offer to schools. We are keen to develop the service in line with EBP and offer our therapists high levels of professional autonomy and the ability to work flexibly within our service delivery framework.

Any training (in line with CPD) and professional fees are reimbursed as part of the employment package. You will have many opportunities for you to consolidate and develop your professional experience and skills as there are a wealth of excellent opportunities for CPD - for example to receive and deliver training, input into team development at various levels, develop your leadership skills and membership of relevant CENs (Clinical Excellence Networks).
