Electronic Test / Repair Engineer

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: Starting salary £34,000 with the opportunity to progress up to £48,000 depending on competencies gained and deployed within the role.

Let us introduce the role

As we move into an exciting phase in our programme, we have an opportunity for an electronic test / repair engineer with experience in fault finding/diagnostics and repair to circuit board level to join the team.

The successful candidate should have a good electronics background and field diagnostic skills. The role will be in support of a small team of Hardware/Software Engineers and will undertake all aspects of 2nd line support and customer requests.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure maximum uptime of systems to meet agreed customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
2. Provide support to 1st line teams in fault diagnosis feeding back any anomalies that require further analysis.
3. Undertake testing and repairs to electronic circuit boards and equipment.
4. Maintain an off-line simulation system to enable testing of equipment in support of new software builds and equipment.
5. Diagnose and support network communication issues in Ethernet and Serial RS232 using copper and fibre technology.
6. Create new circuit boards when required to maintain a healthy stock level liaising with internal customers to maintain store stock levels and external suppliers to manufacture and supply circuit boards when necessary.
7. Undertake projects which will enhance our current systems using prototyping skills, PCB CAD design to automate circuit board testing.
8. Collate, maintain, and action a hardware defect database and maintain a MTBF log of equipment.
9. React to customer enquiries and generate reports with supporting evidence if requested.
10. Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player.
11. Provide Training to 1st line support teams.

Qualifications:

1. HND or equivalent in electronics is essential, or other engineering related subject with electronic fault diagnostic experience.
2. Excellent test and repair to component level skills of complex microprocessor, analogue and digital PCBs.
3. First class soldering, prototyping and PCB re-work skills.
4. Proven fault-finding and diagnostic abilities in complex electronic assemblies.
5. Keen, helpful and self-starting personality willing to work under own initiative.
6. Experience with CAD packages an advantage.
7. High level of organisational, written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to work as part of a team and with external customers.
9. Good attention to detail.
10. Good level of computer literacy.

Special requirements

In order to obtain the required security for this role you will need to be over 18 years of age, willing to visit a nuclear facility and wear the appropriate monitoring devices when requested. Fitness will be assessed at the pre-employment medical held at AWE which follows the initial selection process.

You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own and your team's workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British citizen who has been in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Our interviews typically take place over Teams and for most roles are a 1 stage process. Due to the nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston, typically 4 days onsite per week.
