Specialist Diabetes Podiatrist

Job Summary

Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust (NHCT) Diabetes Podiatry Services are looking for a highly motivated, proactive and focused qualified Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered Podiatrist to join their department.

This job is based in the North Tyneside Diabetes Podiatry Team for 37.5 hours per week. (Various hours are available).

Main Duties of the Job

As a team member your duties will include delivering evidence-based podiatry treatments within clinics, GP surgeries, hospitals, patient's homes, and residential homes. Personal qualities required include excellent organisational skills, personal time management, and flexibility within your working practice to support the podiatry team.

Due to the nature of team working and patient interaction, you should demonstrate clear communication alongside efficient and effective problem-solving. To be a strong candidate, we are looking for a podiatrist who is able to integrate and deliver education into the multidisciplinary team, function within a supportive peer group, and display the strength of character to work autonomously.

Job Responsibilities

• To work as an integral part of the diabetes multi-disciplinary team providing a high standard of clinical care in highly specialised areas and having at least 2 years post NHS registration.
• To act as a diabetes foot specialist, acting as a resource and providing specialist podiatry advice and training for the multi-disciplinary team and other health professionals within the primary healthcare team GP practices.
• To prescribe and implement care plans for people with diabetes by assigning individual risk stratification to provide the appropriate package of care to fulfil national guidelines.
• To be responsible for the planning and management of specialised case loads involving the implementation and coordination of specialised treatment regimes working in a variety of settings e.g. acute, community, and GP practices.
• To be responsible for the development of and adhere to the podiatry department and Trusts policies, strategies and objectives.
• To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications / Professional Registration

• Diploma or degree in podiatry
• Registrant of Health Professions Council

• City & Guilds 7318 or working towards

Experience and Knowledge

• Evidence of post graduate specialist training encompassing society of podiatry core module and specialist training in diabetes and its wider aspects or working towards
• Previous post-graduate experience
• Experience of minor surgical procedures e.g. nail avulsion.
• Evidence of working autonomously
• Evidence of ability to show initiative
• Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
• Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

• Experience of supervising podiatry assistant
• Evidence of training in the behaviour change cycle and advanced communication skills
